How was the packaging tape created and what types of materials and adhesives does 2B Solvent use, following the principle of sustainable business and environmental protection.
Sellotape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape whose composition is basically cellulose. It is used for gluing, or joining a wide variety of materials: paper, cardboard, plastic, even metal, glass, wood – practically anything for anything, depending on the situation and possibilities.
The first tape-like product is mentioned as far back as 1845, when Dr. Horas Day, a New Jersey surgeon, invented pressure-sensitive adhesive tape by applying natural rubber to fabric and using it instead of today’s Band-Aids.
In the twenties of the 20th century, adhesive tape entered mass production. Namely, at the time, a similar rubber-based product was designed at the 3M plant in order to solve a seemingly ordinary problem of the auto industry today: when painting parts in two or more colors, the transition between the two colors was often not a straight line. Namely, the part of the surface that the manufacturer did not want to paint in a certain color would be protected with paper, but the paper did not adhere completely, so the border would often miss some of the new color. Then the transition from one color to another would not be a straight line but would appear irregular.
Packaging tape or scotch tape was invented and given its name in 1937 by Colin Quinnmont and George Gray. Their tape was made from rubber resin that they applied to cellophane, a transparent material made from cellulose. Later, packing tape was produced in South London as part of the Dickinson Robinson Group, which was engaged in paper production and packaging. During the Second World War, packing tape was massively used for gluing glass so that it would break less and not be scattered, and today this is an indispensable little thing that goes with every work table.
BOPP or polypropylene is used for the production of strong self-adhesive tapes that are mainly used in industries, and is characterized by a high level of strength and stretchability, a good ability to combine with different types of glue and high temperature resistance. This material is suitable for recycling and has a high level of environmental friendliness, especially in our range of NRQ packaging tapes with a water-soluble acrylic adhesive that makes the product biodegradable.
PVC or polyvinyl chloride is used for the production of wide-purpose packaging tapes that are characterized by a high level of adhesiveness on a wide variety of substrates. The material is not suitable for recycling and has the lowest level of environmental acceptability.
PAPER is used primarily in the production of protective crepe tapes, but also some types of self-adhesive packing tapes such as Eco tape.
Acrylic or acrylic glue is applied on polypropylene tapes to make our NQR products. It is highly environmentally acceptable as it is water-soluble.
Natural rubber is used as glue on most of our sellotapes, primarily in the Solvent Series. It is obtained from the sap of a special Brazilian tree Hevea Brasiliensis.
Synthetic rubber or hotmelt is glue used on PP Hotmelt 50, and is highly environmentally acceptable. It is produced artificially, like synthetic car oils.
